Cost reduction for contractors and WTEPs

Since its establishment in 2006, Rock Solid has been a key player the Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) market. Applying bottom ash as a building material in groundwork and civic engineering projects results both in a reduction of the use of natural raw materials and in a cost reduction for contractors and waste-to-energy plants (WTEP).

Energy from waste

After an initial sorting cycle, non-reusable domestic waste and mixed industrial waste is incinerated in a waste-to-energy plant (WTEP). The incineration produces energy that can be used immediately to heat dwellings and businesses.

Recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous materials

As a result of ongoing innovation, reprocessing techniques have through the years become increasingly sophisticated. As a matter of course we remove all ferrous and the more course non-ferrous materials (2-50 mm.) from the chain.

Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA)

IBA has been used in the Netherlands as a certified product already since 1981 as unbound material in groundwork and civic engineering projects to replace sand and gravel.

Immobilisation is a known and approved technology that involves the use of mineral binders (cement or cement substitutes), possibly augmented with additives, to create useful uses from rest streams.

Additives for concrete

Right from the start, Rock Solid has aimed at taking the reprocessing of Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) to a higher level. An example that illustrates this, is the initiative the founders of Rock Solid took in 2008 to create the so-called CUR committee, that has conducted research into the use of WTEB granulate together with universities, research institutes and the concrete industry (CUR no. 116).
