Energy from waste

After an initial sorting cycle, non-reusable domestic waste and mixed industrial waste is incinerated in a waste-to-energy plant. This incineration produces energy that can be used immediately to heat dwellings and businesses.

Incineration prevents non-reusable waste from being sent to landfill, and allows for the production of energy (electricity and heat) that can be used immediately in dwellings and businesses. The ash that remains after incineration is called Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) and we reprocess this for further use.

Reprocessing

During reprocessing, Rock Solid recovers the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that are present in the Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA). During this process, any remaining unburnt particles are separated and returned to the waste-to-energy plant to be incinerated as yet. What remains are mineral constituents, WTEB granulate, that are used to replace sand and gravel and concrete, in embankments and foundations.

Recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous materials

As a result of ongoing innovation, reprocessing techniques have through the years become increasingly sophisticated. As a matter of course we remove all ferrous and the more course non-ferrous materials (2-50 mm.) from the chain.
