The municipality of Veendam has redeveloped the landfill site at the Veendammerweg.

The total area is 35 ha, 28 of which for the former landfill site. The other seven ha is a so-called ecological zone, a green belt where nature can develop, and this will be expanded greatly in the near future. After having been sealed, the hump measures 21 metres at its highest point, high enough to that it is possible to see not only Wildervank and Veendam, but even Delfzijl and Groningen.
